Meet the Founder & CEO
Alston B. Calderon, PA-C
Alston B. Calderon, a decorated combat veteran of the United States Air Force, embodies the spirit of service and resilience. With nearly two decades of hands-on patient care, Alston's journey in healthcare began in the intense environments of military service, where he served not only as a firefighter but also as one of the pioneering EMTs during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. There, in the midst of conflict, he volunteered in an emergency room, providing care to both locals and soldiers, laying the foundation for his profound commitment to healing.
After honorably separating from the United States Air Force in 2008, Alston transitioned into civilian life without missing a beat, joining Patrick Air Force Base as a firefighter and soon after, becoming a paramedic. His dedication saw him through grueling 72-hour work weeks while simultaneously pursuing higher education. Alston graduated cum laude from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences Pre-Clinical, a testament to his relentless drive.
After graduation from the University of Central Florida he took some time off to figure out his bearing and eventually went back into the fire department, serving at Homestead Air Reserve Base as well as Palm Bay Fire Department, showcasing his unwavering commitment to public service. His career took a pivotal turn when he was accepted into Florida State University's Physician Assistant program on his first application attempt in 2017. At Florida Sate University College of Medicine, despite the global upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Alston not only completed his studies but also took on leadership as vice president of the Fort Pierce Regional Campus, navigating his clinical rotations with excellence.
In December 2020, Alston graduated amidst a world in crisis, yet his prospects shone bright with multiple job offers. Choosing to dive into the depths of his passions, he embarked on his professional journey in two demanding fields simultaneously: Psychiatry and Mental Health at Riverview Community Mental Health Center, and Trauma & Critical Care/General Surgery at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital.
Alston's choice to specialize in mental health was deeply personal, influenced by watching his mother battle breast cancer at just 41 years old, as well as by his father's studies in eastern medicine and acupuncture, an experience that illuminated the intricate dance between mental and physical health. His work in both psychiatric care and trauma critical care surgery has provided him with a holistic 360° view of patient care, reinforcing his belief that mental and physical health are inextricably linked.
Today, as the founder and CEO of Calderon Medicine Concierge Mental Health, Alston B. Calderon continues to advocate for and practice integrated health care, driven by his firsthand experiences of the profound impact that comprehensive care can have on an individual's life. His story is not just one of professional success but of compassionate service, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to improving lives through medicine.
